File uploads are great because they are so compatible. Because
they use standard HTTP virtually every web browser can do them and
firewalls don't get in the way. If your user is on a fast connection
or is uploading small files the process is instantaneous. You choose
a file - you hit submit - your file arrives on the server.
Problems only start to arise when you want to upload large files
or your users are on slow connections. When they submit their file
it may take seconds or minutes to send to the server. Because browsers
don't display progress bars your users may get confused or frustrated
and give up rather than completing their upload. The obvious solution
to this would be to give the user a dedicated progress bar but using
Java or ActiveX brings in all the problems of incompatibility that
we were trying to avoid in the first place.
ABCUpload utilizes a Pure HTML Progress Bar. It keeps track of
every upload and allows you to watch how much of your file has been
uploaded with absolutely no components installed on the client.
If you can upload; you can use our progress bar - it's Pure HTML.
